The Plan

The overall plan is just to give liveaboard life a go and see what happens.

Our plan in a nutshell

Our plan in a nutshell

More specifically, we will be heading from the UK (‘Two Choices’ is in Fleetwood) to Ireland (end of May), then across the Bay of Biscay to Northern Spain (end of June) and meander south, turning left at the bottom in to the Med.

Update 18 July 2009 – at this point we have several choices regarding where to go and at what pace. So far we seem to have narrowed these down to 2!

Plan A – speed up and head for the Algarve by mid-August, with only brief stops and long passages down the Atlantic coast of Portugal. This will give us ample time to reach the Barcelona area for overwintering and a good jumping off point for further exploring in Spring.

Plan B – meander very slowly through the remaining Spanish rias and the Atlantic coast of Portugal to overwinter in the Algarve.

There’s always two choices! Which would you go for??????

19/8/09 – Plan A is the one and the winter berth in Badalona, just north of Barcelona is reserved.

January 2011 – The plan has moved on! After spending a year in Malta, with only limited sailing, Two Choices will be heading for Greece this year…with us as full-time liveaboards. No more to-ing & fro-ing to the frozen north for a while!

Autumn 2011 – The plan went according to plan….we have spent an idle summer meandering around the Ionian Islands of Greece. We’re now in our winter berth in Lefkas and, apart from a short trip back to the UK in Oct/Nov, we’ll be exploring Greece by road for the winter and catching up on maintenance aboard. The plan now is to sail anti-clockwise round the Peloponnese in Spring 2012.

Summer 2012 – After a great winter in Lefkada, we’re now on the move again. Unexpected events meant that our planned participation in the Cruising Association Rally along the western Peloponese was cancelled. Instead we’ll be going clockwise round the Peloponese in July/August, with a plan to return to the Ionian in September in time for the Southern Ionian Rally. Then it’ll be back to Lefkas Marina for the winter.

Spring/Summer 2013 – We plan to leave the Ionian round about the third week in April to head through the Corinth Canal and up the Evia Channel to the Northern Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos & Skyros). Then across the Aegean to Turkey, taking in a land visit to Istanbul, and a cruise down the coast, maybe as far as Finike if time permits, before heading back to the Ionian for a wedding and a rendezvous with the Southern Ionian Rally. Καλό καλοκαίρι. 😎

Reading your blog gives me a sense of the excitement and the wonderful sense of the unknown. Our great great grandfather was a sailor and I guess you (Terry/Peter) have the gene from him, as well as dad of course. Maybe it is dormant in your siblings and you will have a stream of us tracking you down as you move around – hmmm maybe not what you would want Lu however it is a part of the great unknown isn’t it – others wanting to share your adventure a little?
Good luck and we will follow your adventures with great interest and perhaps a little envy as you realize your dreams together.
