ΚΑΛΟ ΠΑΣΧΑ… Happy Easter

5 May

Easter was celebrated joyfully and noisily here in Skiathos. We followed the throngs heading for the Old Harbour at 11.45pm to watch the fireworks at midnight and the sharing from person to person of the Eternal Flame, which originated in Jerusalem.

Although the firework display was quite short-lived and not particularly visually spectacular, it certainly didn’t lack anything when it came to decibels and blast-strength. With one particularly ferocious bang, I was nearly knocked off my feet and went flying into the woman standing behind me!

Once the candle-lighting and pyrotechnics were over, we made our way to the restaurant to meet Minas and his wife, Chrissa and their friends for the fast-breaking meal.

Magiritsa - lamb offal soup. Includes head, neck, lungs, intestines, heart & liver!

With good company, the time flew by, the offal soup went down surprisingly easily (the taste was actually quite nice, the texture of the lumpy bits less so!) and before we knew it, it was 3 a.m. and time for bed.
